About Melissa (Lisa) J. Morgan

Education & Legal Training

Lisa is an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of California.  After graduating high school and attending community college in San Diego, Lisa spent several years in the San Francisco Bay Area majoring in Anglo-American and post-modern ethnic literature at the University of California at Berkeley.  At Berkeley, she also focused her studies on Dietetics and Nutrition, writing and compiling original research to contribute to studies on the effectiveness of government-regulated labeling programs.

Martial Arts & Muay Thai Experience

After being a student of boxing for nearly ten years and, more recently, a student of Muay Thai for the past two years at Blackhouse Team Nogueira San Diego under Kru Carl Gebhardt and Alexander Palma of Blue Ocean Muay Thai, Lisa entered the competitive Muay Thai scene in 2012.  In addition to traditional boxing and Muay Thai, Lisa studied Shotokan Karate for a brief period, earning a yellow belt before returning to unsanctioned boxing "smoker" competitions.

Why Did I Go to Thailand?

As an aspiring martial artist with a lifelong passion for boxing and striking sports, I traveled to Thailand to study Muay Thai after graduation.  I started this blog to keep track of my journey both before and after my travels abroad as a place to further explore and define my identity as both a fighter and newly-minted J.D trying to become a lawyer.

I am currently living in San Diego, California and looking for full-time work in the legal field as well as fitness and fight opportunities.

We acquire a sense of worth either by realizing our talents, or by keeping busy, or by identifying ourselves with something apart from us --- be it a cause, a leader, a group, possessions or the like.  Of the three, the path of self-realization is the most difficult.  It is taken only when other avenues to a sense of worth are more or less blocked.  Men of talent have to be encouraged and goaded to engage in creative work.  Their groans and laments echo through the ages.
